My Life as a Young Artist
During my early years studying at City of Glasgow college I experimented with a variety of ways to make art; painting, mixed media, collage, digital art, drawing and photography. My creative imagination grew whilst experiencing college life, which significantly influenced my works and overall view towards art. I created art depicting human intervention within a natural landscape, witch trials, churches, cathedrals and depicting ideas surrounding mental health. Whilst studying the BA(Hons) my practice matured and strengthened as I became more confident within myself as a young artist. Working with sculpture, performance art, installation, sewing, body art, photography, videography and abstract painting to convey ideas surrounding the Barnum 'Freakshow', as well as touching on feminism and misogyny. I was then inspired by surrealism, shadow figure phenomenon and the uncanny whilst studying my Honours. I focused on strengthening my painting skills and experimenting with scale, installation, sound, videography and photography work. I created large scale paintings as well as sinister puppets suspended them from an eight foot wooden structure that created an immersive, discomforting and unsettling atmosphere evoking uncertainty within my viewers. I am still trying to find my footing within the artworld as a young artist who recently graduated with a 1st Class BA(Honours) degree in Contemporary Art Practice. No matter how difficult things get I push through and never give up. I continue to create spooky works whilst trying to involve myself in the artworld. I aim to become a Contemporary Art lecturer. Inspiring other artists whilst helping them to recognise their talent and gain confidence. I continue to improve my own practice by experimenting with techniques, materials, different subject matters, ideas, concepts and building my professional practice.
